Landmark district sidewalk work adds a Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) review layer on top of the standard DOT Construction Permit. LPC reviews can add 4–8 weeks — plan for it.
Which materials LPC approves
Districts like Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, Greenwich Village, and SoHo-Cast Iron typically require bluestone or historic-consistent concrete finishes. Modern broom-finish sidewalk is often not approved in these districts.
Sequencing the two permits
LPC first, DOT second. LPC issues a Certificate of Appropriateness. DOT will not issue the Construction Permit without it. We start LPC applications the day we quote — before you even confirm the job — so we don't lose weeks.
Bluestone vs. cast concrete pricing
Bluestone runs $35–$60 per sq ft installed. LPC-compliant scored concrete runs closer to standard sidewalk pricing plus 10–15% for the extra finish work.
